East and West Goshen Townships co-hosted an interactive Sustainability Expo on Sunday, April 16, at East Goshen Park. This year’s theme was “Healthier Planet, Healthier You.” The unifying event brought together our respective sustainability advisory committees; West and East Goshen Supervisors Ashley Gagné and Michael Lynch, respectively; and an array of local partners, vendors, residents, and families.
Through various partners and educational resources, we engaged the community with examples of sustainable processes and goods including composting, solar shingles, electric lawn equipment, electric cars and e-bikes, pollinator gardens, watershed stewardship, and repurposing or upscaling items that would otherwise be destined for the trash. Crafting tables were a hit with the kiddos who received prizes for their art, including an 8-ounce box of water. No plastic bottles for this crowd!
The Expo was a great way to celebrate and educate our communities on the future of sustainability. We could not have done it without the following partner participants, who collectively contributed to the event’s success: Arbonne; Arbor Day Foundation; Bachman’s Roofing, Building, and Remodeling, Inc.; Back to Earth Compost Crew; BoxedWaterIsBetter.com; Chester Ridley Crum Watershed Association; Environmental Health Club, West Chester University; Goshen Tree Tenders; Hershey’s Mill Nature Group; Petals Please; PECO; Penn State Extension; Residents of East and West Goshen; West Chester Cooperative; and Wild Birds Unlimited.
