West Goshen Township Park and Recreation Board Meeting November 17, 2010
Attendance: Joseph Waters, Ed Smith, Mike Pillagalli, Nancy Pine, Robert Cifone, and Jerry Napiecek
Township Representatives: Kent Wise, Ken Lehr, Tom Steines,and Casey LaLonde
The meeting was called to order at 7:00PM by Chair Nancy Pine.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Minutes from the October 20th meeting were approved on a motion by Robert Cifone and seconded by Joseph Waters.
Treasury Statement was reviewed without questions.
Parks Department: Kent Wise advised the board that the crew is clearing up leaves at all park locations., and resodding the turf at Flagg
Field at Community Park. Bathrooms at all parks, except for Community Park, have been closed for the winter. Community Park will be the last to be closed down due to use and warmer weather. Skatepark
bathroom facilities will be closed down, with assistance of the West Chester Area School District, after Thanksgiving
Summer Recreation and Teen Program: Letters of interest for working in summer of 2011 went out to all counselors from the 2010 season.
Friends of West Goshen Parks: A meeting was held on November 4, 2010. Jerry Napiecek attended as a representative of the Park and
Recreation Board. Four members of the Friends were in attendance. Officers were elected: John Herley--President Mary Bleecker--Secretary John Herley-- Acting Treasurer.

Some of the Friends may attend and help with the Holiday Breakfast. The $4800.00 deficit for the concert series was made up by the Township. There
currently is $8600.00 in their treasury and $26,000.00 in a reserve fund. There will be a membership drive in the spring with a possible incentive in the mix to support the Friends of West Goshen
Park. Next meeting is slated for January 6, 2011.
Bus Trips: The Park and Recreation Board is sponsoring a Radio City Music trip on December 6th (2 busses) and a New York City (3 busses) on
your own bus trip on Saturday, December 11th. Proposed trips for 2011 include the possibility of Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC in late February or March, Boston with West Chester and East Goshen, and
Annapolis.
Summer Concerts: A 6:30 PM meeting was held prior to the regular board meeting to wrap up this year's concert series and discuss the program for
the summer of 2011. Projected summer 2011 concert dates: June 12/26, July 10/24, August 7/21. Discussed was the idea of using some of the Friends' capital reserve to retain the Greaseband for a concert.
Harvest Day: Harvest Day was held on Sunday, October 24th at Community Park from 2 to 4PM. A good size crowd attended the splendid event with beautiful weather.
Holiday Breakfast: The Holiday Breakfast is scheduled for December 18/19 at the Stadium Grille. We may be joined by Officer Cotter
with a Community Outreach Program through the Police Department.
Holiday Craft Workshop: Openings are still available for classes to be held on December 8/9 at 7 PM.
Skatepark: Will be open only on weekends after Thanksgiving through March.
Restricted Park Capital Account: The Board of Supervisors has turned down the idea of a splash park for the time being due to budgetary
constraints to focus use of the money on/in the Jerrehian Property. The Open Space Fees will be utilized for this purpose. Kent Wise had submitted a proposal for $50,000.00 to be used for an addition
to the concession stand for Summer Recreation storage and another for dugouts to be constructed by the township on the smaller ballfield. That has been approved as well as $200,000.00 for some architectural study
and /or potential design to provide shade at the Community Park amphitheatre.
New Business: A motion was made by Cifone and seconded by Joseph Waters to retain current office holders in the same position for another
year. The motion passed unanimously.
On a motion by Michael Pillagalli and a second by Jerry Napiecek, the meeting was adjourned at 7:29 PM.
