West Goshen Township Park and Recreation Board Meeting May 19, 2010
Attendance: Bob Cifone, Nancy Pine, Ed Smith, Mike Pillagalli, and Joseph Waters
Township Personnel: Kent Wise, Ken Lehr, and Tom Steines
The meeting was called to order by Chair Nancy Pine at 7:02 PM
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Minutes from the April 21, 2010 meeting were reviewed and a motion was made to approve as written by Bob Cifone and seconded by Joe
Waters. Motion was passed.
Treasurer's Report was reviewed and no questions were generated.
Joe Waters was welcomed back to the Parks and Recreation Board as a member after a hiatus of several years. Welcome back, Joe!!
Parks Department: Kent Wise reported that the parks crew cutting grass and more grass and trimming all the park
properties. Work on the ballfields, to refresh the diamondtex mixed with clay, has happened as time avails itself. More than 70 yards of playground mulch have been delivered and spread so
far. Left to mulch are Barker, South Concord, and Cloud Parks. The Community Park playground tube slide and the chain ladders are in need of replacing after twelve or so years. Two summer
employees are now at work with a third one to come in June. Kent was asked some questions relating to removing lumber from the Jerrehian property after it comes into our domain.
Summer Recreation Program and Summer Teen Program: Tom Steines reports that camp starts within a month and all counselors are
hired and awaiting orientation. There has been a 50% return of counselors. The three head counselors remain the same. Orientation for counselors will take place on June 5th and for junior
counselors on June 16th. The numbers for the two days of registration for said camp programs held on May 8th and 15th were a little higher than last year's registration. Barker has a maximum of
110; 75 are registered. Coopersmith Park will hold 90; 40 are registered. Community Park will take a total of 150 and 50 are signed up. The number of counselors has been allocated per park
per enrollment. All field trips are lined up with transportation worked out. Community service projects for the Summer Teen Program are being worked on at the moment.
Friends of West Goshen Parks: Ken Lehr reported that The Friends of West Goshen Parks held their annual membership meeting on
May 13, 2010. The cash account balance is $17,833.24 and the Vanguard account totals $25,552. $4500.00 has been received for sponsorship of the summer concerts to include:

1st National Bank $500.00 Krapf's Coaches $500.00
West Goshen Automotive and Fleet Services $500.00 QVC to be announced
John Herley was elected as president of the Friends of West Goshen Parks and Mary Anne Fell was elected as vice president. Secretary and
treasurer positions remain vacant. John Herley is acting as treasurer until one is elected. The Friends of West Goshen Parks will hold a small raffle during the children's concert and a larger
raffle during the Blackthorn concert this summer. There was an affirmative vote on allowing non-West Goshen residents to serve on and hold offices on the Friends of West Goshen Parks Board of
Directors. Brief discussion took place on the consultant's report regarding membership incentives.
Old Business: Ken Lehr reported that scheduled bus trips include:
May 19 to Cape Cod with 50% of those going from West Goshen June 9 two busses to New York City with 12 spaces left as of
this reporting July 10 to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island July 20 Yankee Stadium August 1 to Washington for a Nationals game
September 11 to Citi Field for Phillies vs. Mets
Ken Lehr passed around a signup sheet for Park and Recreation Board members to volunteer time at the summer concerts. Concerts are:

The walk through of the Jerrehian property on May 15 was reviewed. Discussion was held on the maintenance of the property with Kent Wise when
it is part of our park system.
New Business: Ken Lehr reported that the Decorated Bike Parade will be held at Community
Park on July 3rd at 10 AM and July 4th if there is rain on the 3rd.
The Park and Recreation Board unanimously approved a request by Harry Helms on behalf of the American Legion for flag retirement ceremony at
Community Park on June 12th.
Three skate camps will be held at the skatepark at Lambert Park, to be staffed by Fairman's during the weeks of June 21st to 25th, July 12th to
16th and August 16th to 20th from 10 AM until noon. Ages are five through twelve with a maximum of 24 per camp.
Motion was made to adjourn at 7:50 PM by Bob Cifone and seconded by Joe Waters.
