West Goshen Township Park and Recreation Board Meeting June 16, 2010
Attendance: Bob Cifone, Nancy Pine, Ed Smith, Mike Pillagalli, Joseph Waters, Mary Lou Enoches, and Jerry Napiecek
Township Personnel: Kent Wise, Ken Lehr, Tom Steines, and Casey LaLonde
The meeting was called to order by Chair Nancy Pine at 7:01 PM.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Minutes from the April 21, 2010 meeting were reviewed and a motion was made to approve as written by Bob Cifone and seconded by Jerry
Napiecek. Motion was passed.
Treasury statement was reviewed and no questions were generated.
Parks Department: Kent Wise reported that the Parks crew is cutting grass and then more grass and trimming all the park
properties. Work on the ballfields is taking place. Safety mulch has been placed at Barker Park. Trimming and bed weeding and grooming is ongoing at this time of the year.
Summer Recreation and Summer Teen Program: Tom Steines reported that summer programs start June 21st and that the parks are ready. Orientation with first-aid and CPR training was held for the counselors on June 5th.
Current numbers are: Barker—96; Community Par—82; Coopersmith Park—62; and Teen Program--35. The first community service project is the first week for Teen Program with the Chester
County Historical Society. Summer hours for Tom Steines and Ken Lehr include a half-day Friday to accommodate camp hours.
Friends of West Goshen Parks: Jerry Napiecek reported that the first concert for children was moved to East High School due to
rain. The raffle basket was a break even deal. Next money maker is another basket raffle at the Blackthorn Concert on July 25th. The Friends of West Goshen Parks are considering
ways to increase their membership and its volunteerism, and actively seeking fundraising opportunities.
Old Business: Ken Lehr indicated that the May 19th trip to Cape Cod seemed to be a success. Half of those in attendance registered through West Goshen Township. Two buses have filled for the June 20th trip to New York City. Upcoming trips include:
- July 10 to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
- July 20 Yankee Stadium
- August 1 to Washington for a Nationals game
- September 11 to Citi Field for Phillies vs. Mets
Upcoming summer concerts include:
- June 27 Barbone Street Jazz Band
- July 11 Special Blendz---10th Anniversary at the Park
- July 25 Blackthorne
- August 8 Mainliners
- August 22 Jimmy Jorge and the Latin Express
The Commonwealth Classic Theatre Company's production of "The Miser" will take place at Community Park on Saturday, July 17th.
Casey LaLonde reported that all is status quo with the Jerrehian property at the moment due to no active buyer.
The Decorated Bike Parade will be at Community Park on July 3rd at 10:00 AM and July 4th at 10:00 AM if there is rain on the 3rd. Set up starts at 9:00 AM. Ken Lehr said he needs judges for the Bike Parade.
Skatecamps will be held on June 21-25, July 12-16, and August 16-20. Times are 10:00 AM until noon and ages five to twelve. Max per camp
is 25 children.
New Business: Discussion was held on the monument memorializing Mr. Hallowell and its placement on a field or where it was
originally placed and it seems as if the monument will return to its original area of location but set into a small landscaped area.
Motion to adjourn was made at 7:22 by Mary Lou Enoches and seconded by Bob Cifone.
