Wastewater Treatment Plant

Sewer Authority

The West Goshen Township Wastewater Treatment Plant is a 6 million gallon per day facility located on South Concord Road. It is operated by a full-time work force of operators and a laboratory technician who are supervised by the Plant Manager. Employees of the Sewer Department work Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Staff members are on call 24 hours per day to handle emergencies. The collection system consists of approximately 225 miles of sewer lines and force mains as well as 10 pumping stations.

Sewer Testing
The professional staff of employees work diligently to monitor effluent and processed sludge to assure compliance with stringent regulations from the Department of Environmental Protection. In addition to these federal regulations, West Goshen Township has adopted regulations prohibiting the discharge of industrial wastes into the sewer system and also mandating the placement of continuous samplers on specific industrial lines.

The West Goshen Township Sewerage System was constructed by the West Goshen Sewer Authority at the request of the Township Board of Supervisors. The Sewer Authority is the owner of the System and leases it to the Township who is responsible for operations, maintenance, and repair. The Board of Supervisors also establishes and collects sewer rental fees from users of the system, and these fees are among the lowest in the County. Both the Authority and the Township have written agreements with East Goshen Township, Westtown Township, and West Whiteland Township to accept flows from these municipalities into the West Goshen system. The contracting of surplus capacity benefits the residents and business owners of West Goshen Township by distributing the fixed costs among a greater number of users, thereby lowering the costs of treatment. This also enables the Township to provide service to some residents through sewer lines which have been constructed by surrounding municipalities.
